Power outlet, also known as switch socket, is a socket into which one or more circuit wirings can be inserted, through which various electrical alliances can be inserted. This facilitates connection to other circuits, which are turned on and off through the connection and disconnection between the line and the copper member.
Using contexts are important when selecting a power outlet. Different places should be matched with different types of the power outlet. There is often water and fumes in the kitchen and bathroom. It is best to install splash-proof boxes or plastic baffles on the socket panel to prevent short circuits caused by oil and water vapor intrusion. In families with kids, in order to prevent children from touching with fingers or using metal objects to sew holes, it is necessary for parents to use a safety socket with an insurance cover. In addition, when installing a three-hole socket, the ground wire should not be left useless, and the ground wire should not be directly connected to the gas pipe. These practices are quite dangerous. The ground wire is connected to the electrical enclosure. Once the appliance leaks, it can cause people to get an electric shock.
With the popularity of household appliances, the number of power outlets at home has gradually increased. But if it is not properly installed, it will become an “invisible bomb” buried in the wall. According to the relevant survey data of the Ministry of Public Security, in the past 10 years of fire accidents in China, fires caused by short-circuits such as power outlets, switches, and circuit breakers accounted for nearly 30% of the total, ranking first among all types of fires. Therefore it is worth noting the following contents when using them.
Many homes always feel it too high to be aesthetically pleasing when installing sockets and will place them in a lower concealed location. However, scientists said that it is easy to cause water to splash into the socket when mopping the floor, resulting in a leakage accident. According to the industry regulations, the wall-mounted socket is preferably not less than 1.8 meters from the ground and the concealed socket not less than 0.3 meters. In addition, the sockets for kitchens and bathrooms should be more than 1.5 meters above the ground, and outlets for air conditioners should be at least 2 meters.
The power leads must use a copper wire cross-section. If you live in an old house, be sure to replace the original aluminum wire with copper wire because the aluminum wire is easily oxidized, the joint of which is easy to catch fire. There have been surveys showing that the incidence of an electrical fire in residential buildings using aluminum wires is several dozen times that of copper wires. In addition, many families use the method of slotted and buried pipe on account of aesthetics. Experts remind that the wiring must follow the principle of “live wire into the switch, zero lines into the lamp head”, and that a leakage protection device is necessary on the socket.
The universal hole power outlet, that is, the jack of which can be compatible with two or three poles at the same time, and even the sockets of non-daily use plugs such as in British standard, American standard and European standard is a good product. However, such a socket has a large jack, and the contact area between the socket tab and the electrical plug is too small, which may cause the contact sheet to overheat and cause a fire accident.
